Pasig City, Philippines — 21 July 2025 – Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) is set to develop a 49-megawatt (MW) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Toledo, Cebu as part of its efforts to enhance grid stability and support the country's energy transition.
Battery pricing in the Philippines continues to decline, making energy storage more accessible across all segments. Residential systems typically range from $280 to $420 per kWh, while commercial systems fall between $220 and $330 per kWh.
The Philippines' clean energy transition could require up to USD 323 billion in investments by 2050, with offshore wind and large-scale energy storage identified as critical components of future power system development, according to findings from the concluded Accelerating Clean.
Nearly 5 GWh of new battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be deployed through hybrid solar-plus-storage projects, signaling the emergence of storage as a core component of the nation's energy strategy.
