The electrical energy from wind power is used to heat a bulk storage material; the heat energy is recovered to produce water vapor which in turn drives a turbo-alternator to generate electricity.
The energy capacity and the self-discharge of EES systems are the major factors in deciding the associated suitable storage duration. From the overview, it is clear that there is no suitable commercialized technology for seasonal energy storage at present.
