However, dependable energy storage systems with high energy and power densities are required by modern electronic devices.
Energy storage technologies have emerged as crucial enablers of this energy revolution, bridging the gap between energy generation and consumption . Energy storage technologies improve grid stability by capturing surplus energy during low-demand and releasing it during peak demand.
Various methods of energy storage, such as batteries, flywheels, supercapacitors, and pumped hydro energy storage, are the ultimate focus of this study. One of the main sustainable development objectives that have the potential to change the world is access to affordable and clean energy.
While lithium-ion batteries have dominated the energy storage landscape, there is a growing interest in exploring alternative battery technologies that offer improved performance, safety, and sustainability .
Based on this review finding, Li-ion batteries are the most preferred as compared to other energy storage devices such as supercapacitors and bio-batteries. They are safer to dispose of than Ni-Cd batteries because they do not contain the hazardous metal cadmium.
