The low surface roughness of flexible glass is beneficial for thin-film devices such as display backplanes, OLED lighting, and photovoltaics. Also, the two high-quality surfaces (A and B) present with flexible glass substrates enable opto-electronic structures to be fabricated on both glass surfaces to create double-sided devices.
The third section focuses on flexible glass device applications and includes chapters on photovoltaics, displays, integrated photonics, and microelectronics integration. These are authored by experts with direct experience in fabricating and characterizing flexible glass devices.
The thermal capability of flexible glass enables high-temperature processes to be performed on glass substrates as required in some devices. As a comparison, the glass composition discussed in this paper has a Tg of approximately 700 °C while PEN has a Tg of 120 °C [ 20 ].

Typical roughness values for the flexible glass are Ra < 0.5 nm on both surfaces similar to glass substrates used in liquid crystal and OLED displays. As shown, polymer films typically have higher roughness values especially on the substrate back surface.
Recently several double-glass (also called glass–glass or dual-glass modules) c-Si PV modules have been launched on the market, many of them by major PV manufacturers. These modules use a sheet of tempered glass at the rear of the module instead of the conventional polymer-based backsheet. There are several reasons why this structure is appealing.
