The synchronization signals present in LTE, namely, primary synchronization signal (PSS) and secondary synchronization signal, that carry cell ID are critically exploited in the algorithms. The aforementioned algorithms are classified into two modules, namely, module I and module II, based on their computation complexity.
The simulation conducted follows the LTE specifications of the signal generation and transmission. Since the synchronization signals are always transmitted on single antenna in LTE, only the SISO case is considered. During initial synchronization, UE starts the cell search process without any prior information related to LTE BS.
The pilot sequences used in LTE synchronization are ZC sequences whose structure is entirely different from the that of the sequences proposed in the prior works. The self-correlation method presented in is not a practical choice in LTE because the transmission periodicity of the ZC signals is much higher than the coherence time.
It opti-mizes synchronization accuracy under low power using an average-energy detection synchronization method. These systems demonstrate that while throughput and syn-chronization accuracy are often in conflict, trade-offs can be optimized, particularly in low-power environments.
CONCLUSION Synchronization is a cornerstone for enabling reliable and eficient communication in low-power backscatter systems. This survey has reviewed state-of-the-art synchronization tech-nologies across BLE, LTE, and WiFi-based backscatter plat-forms.
We also explore the trade-off between high throughput and low power synchronization in backscatter communication. Achieving high throughput typically involves more complex signal processing and higher modulation accuracy, which increases power consumption.
