Feb 19, 2020 · Abstract and Figures Photovoltaic (PV) panels are commonly used for on-site generation of electricity in urban environments, specifically on
To avoid increasing the temperature of the surrounding air, which increases the operating temperature, it may be desirable to install PV panels at heights of approximately 100 cm o higher. Reducing the height of installation from 100 to 50 cm for the PV panels on the green roof increased the daily energy generation by an average of 0.25 ± 0.4%.
The type of roof influences the air temperature around the PV panels under warm tropical conditions, and this influence is more critical at lower installation heights. There was no evidence of this effect for heights greater than 100 cm.
Namely, 0°, 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, 35°, 40°, 45°. “Due to the difference in solar elevation angle between summer and winter, the daily power generation (Epvr) of parallel overhead photovoltaic roofs is optimal (307.2 W/m2) in summer, and the Epvr decreases with the increase of tilt angle,” they explained.
Thus, a PV panel on a concrete roof may produce slightly more energy (about 1 ± 0.4%) than that installed on a green roof, since the albedo of vegetation is lower than that of the reflective coating of the concrete roof, despite the cooling effect of vegetation. The aforementioned situation is valid for air velocities of 0–0.5 m/s.
The gain of the inclined overhead photovoltaic roof at 40◦ reaches the best (234.6 W/m2) and then shows a downward trend.” In summer, they also found that the PV roof's daily energy-saving efficiency is the highest, at 18.8%. As the tilt angle increases, the efficiency of inclined overhead roofs shows a downward trend.
Reducing the height of installation from 100 to 50 cm for the PV panels on the green roof increased the daily energy generation by an average of 0.25 ± 0.4%. In contrast, the same reduction for installations on the concrete roof reduced energy generation by nearly 1 ± 0.4%.
